Dear Supplier,

For several years Johnson County has maintained a vendor registration program that encouraged suppliers to register with the County to receive notifications of bids or Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) issued by the Purchasing Department. That service has been duplicated for the past three years by DemandStar, an on-line bidding service that supports the County with these same services.

In an effort to continually improve processes and reduce costs, Johnson County will be discontinuing its vendor registration and letter notification process effective October 19, 2004. A potential supplier of goods or services to Johnson County may now register as a subscriber with DemandStar to receive automatic notification of County bids and RFP’s. DemandStar offers a supplier notification service that will notify vendors of Johnson County bids or RFP’s the same day they are issued. This means you can read the bids and RFP’s sooner and respond to them in an easier, more cost effective manner.

DemandStar provides this fee-supported subscriber service notifying vendors of bid or RFP opportunities from Johnson County, the Kansas City Metro area, or at a state or national level. Should your firm only elect to receive notices from Johnson County, the current subscriber fee is $30.00 per year. Pricing for the Kansas City Metro area is currently $150.00 per year. State or national subscription rates are also available from DemandStar, which may be reached at www.demandstar.com or at 1-800-331-5537.

Should your firm elect not to subscribe to the DemandStar service, you will still have several other ways to learn about County bids and RFP’s. You may view Johnson County bids and RFP’s in The Olathe News, or you may go to the County website at www.jocogov.org to review County procurement opportunities. Bid documents may also still be requested from the Purchasing Office directly. Notifications will no longer be mailed out by Purchasing however, and Johnson County will no longer maintain a separate vendor registration program for that purpose.

An added benefit to visiting the Johnson County website is that you will be able to view bid tabulations on-line after contracts are awarded. By going to www.jocogov.org, you may also view bid tabulations on contracts that have been awarded by Johnson County. This will eliminate the need of contacting the Purchasing Division for this information and should save additional time. You will be asked to establish a user profile and password the first time you attempt to view the tabulation sheets, but will be able to use this password to view information on future bids. This service is provided at no cost to the supplier.

Should you have questions or concerns about our new notification process, please feel free to contact the Purchasing Department at 913-715-0525 and ask to speak to a Purchasing Administrator.

Thank you
