We are responsible for managing the county-wide property and casualty insurance and self-funded program, managing the property and liability losses that result from operations, managing the self-funded workers' compensation program, conducting safety audits, conducting loss control and property conservation inspections, conducting risk management and safety training, and providing workplace crisis management services.

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION
The County’s workers’ compensation program is self-funded and administered by a contracted third party administrator, Thomas McGee, L.C. Injured County employees should contact their immediate supervisor regarding accident and injury reporting requirements and forms. Questions regarding medical treatment, return to work, prescriptions, mileage reimbursement or other benefits related to an injury should contact the Risk Management Division at 913-715-0603 or the Claims Administrator at 816-843-4415.

CLAIMS FOR DAMAGES INVOLVING JOHNSON COUNTY OPERATONS
Johnson County’s automobile liability and property damage program is self-insured and meets the standards required for self-insureds as set forth by the Kansas Insurance Commissioner and applicable Kansas statutes regulating self-insureds and public entities.
Johnson County has elected to self-insure its general and public official liability coverage.
If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident with a County vehicle, or wish to make a claim against the County for other damages involving Johnson County operations, contact the Risk Management Division to report the loss and to obtain a Claim for Damages form which will meet the statutory claim reporting requirements per K.S.A. 12-105b(d), if, as a claimant, you are not represented by legal counsel.
SAFETY MANAGEMENT
The County seeks to provide a safe work environment for all of it’s’ employees and continually strives to prevent accidents and injuries. The Safety Officer dedicates time and resources to conduct inspections and accident investigations to identify and eliminate hazards and correct unsafe actions, provide education and training, and communicate the need for every employee to be personally responsible in preventing injury to themselves and to those with whom they work.
The Kansas Department of Labor, Industrial Safety & Health Division, oversees regulatory compliance for Johnson County.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Workplace Crisis Management seeks to meet the internal planning and response needs of County departments and agencies. The Workplace Crisis Management Specialist is dedicated to:
• Determining the crisis planning requirements by facility;
• Recommending procedures related to the planning and response processes;
• Assisting the departments/agencies in writing plans that are integrated not only by facility but Countywide;
• Assuring that plans are exercised and employees trained;
• Working with the Workplace Safety Coordinators to ensure they maintain current knowledge of countywide policies, procedures, and systems used to mitigate, prepare for, recover from and respond to emergency and disaster situations as they affect County operations.
