Financial Management Receives National Award

The Office of Financial Management has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
The honor is in recognition of the office’s comprehensive annual financial report for 2006. The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to Tom Franzen, the county’s director of financial management.
“This marks the 20th consecutive year that Johnson County has achieved this highest recognition for financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association,” he said.
Franzen credits the Accounting Division staff for their work in achieving the national recognition and ensuring the department’s award-winning standards are being maintained in serving Johnson County.
The 2006 comprehensive annual financial report, or CAFR, was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 15,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
